Scan, decode, and troubleshoot pharmaceutical barcode data.

A focused iPhone and iPad tool for inspecting GS1-compatible barcode data, understanding EAN-13 and UPC-A identifiers, and building common healthcare identifiers.

What it does

Built for practical barcode inspection

01Scan supported GS1 DataMatrix, QR, and linear barcodes
02Decode GTIN, expiration, lot, serial, and 500+ additional identifiers
03Build GTIN-14 values with automatic check-digit calculation
04Arrange healthcare data elements with automatic FNC1 handling
05Estimate barcode image quality for screening purposes
06Version 1.5: inspect EAN-13 and UPC-A equivalents and optionally retrieve medicine or food catalog details

Barcode quality results are camera-based screening estimates and are not certified ISO/IEC verification results.

Retail EAN/UPC barcodes identify products; they do not encode lot, serial, expiration, or price. Optional lookup uses the openFDA NDC Directory for supported medicine UPC candidates and Open Food Facts for other retail codes, primarily food. Coverage is not universal. Confirm medicine NDC segmentation against the printed package label. Catalog results do not establish authenticity, FDA approval, recall status, or medical suitability.

Help with Pharma Barcode Scan Tool

Camera does not start automatically

This is intentional. Tap the scan control when you are ready, then allow camera access if iOS asks.

A code does not decode

Keep the symbol flat, sharp, well lit, and fully inside the frame. You can also paste the decoded element string into Analyze.

Why is an FNC1 separator shown?

Variable-length elements need a separator when another application identifier follows. The builder recalculates this automatically.

Preparing a support request

Record the app version, iPhone model, iOS version, and the steps that caused the issue. Never include patient information or confidential production data.

Privacy policy

Local decoding. Optional online lookup.

On-device processing

Pharma Barcode Scan/Generator does not require an account and includes no advertising or analytics SDK. Barcode decoding, camera frames, and selected photo/PDF analysis run on your device. We do not operate a server that receives your scans.

Optional product lookup

Only when you tap Look Up Product, the app sends the selected barcode identifier or possible NDC package numbers directly to openFDA or Open Food Facts to retrieve catalog details. The provider also receives standard network information, including your IP address and request metadata. Providers may retain request logs for operation, security, rate limiting, or service analysis under their own policies. Source images and your saved scan history are not transmitted. You can use barcode decoding offline and avoid online lookup entirely.

Provider information: FDA privacy policy and Open Food Facts privacy policy. We do not control provider retention or processing. Catalog queries are not linked by this app to an account, advertising identifier, or patient record. The app does not use them for advertising or cross-app tracking.

Camera and photos

Camera and photo access are used only when you choose to scan or import an image. Generated barcode images may be saved to Photos when you request it. Images and PDF files are processed locally and are not uploaded for product lookup.

Local storage

Scan history and app preferences may be stored locally on your device. You can remove saved history in the app. Deleting the app removes its locally stored data from the device.

Reports and purchases

Reports can include catalog results, source links, and retrieval times. Sharing happens only when you choose a destination through the system share sheet. Apple processes the optional one-time Full Version Unlock and restored purchases; payment card details are not provided to this app.

Children and sensitive information

The app is a general-purpose professional utility and does not knowingly collect information from children. Do not place patient information or other sensitive personal data in barcode examples used for support.

Changes

If the app’s data practices change, this policy will be updated before those changes are released.
